 Assignment 1 - Review

 

Objectives

 

Demonstrate ability to get SQL Server operational and create a database within SQL Server.

 

This is a review assignment.

 

Assignment

 

You will be given a data dictionary for a simple database. You will need to install SQL Server, and use SQL Server Management Studio to create a database from the supplied data dictionary. Once you have created the database - you will create a diagram (using SQL Server Management studio) of your database and do a screen capture of SQL Server with the database diagram on the screen. You cna use the diagram tool in SQL server management studio or Visio (which allow you to generate a diagram from the database).

 

You will past this screen capture into Word and submit the Word document (you may also submit as a PDF file). You can select one of the possible database dictionaries below or propose your own database.

You will turn in (to the drop box) a word doc or pdf file of the database SQL script and the screen capture of the database design.

 

Information

 

This assignment covers all the basics of getting started with SQL Server, creating a database, and the basic database objects (tables, keys, etc...).

 

Estimated Completion Time

 

This is a review assignment. This should take experienced users 3-6 hours, for less experienced database users you should allot up to 10-20 hours.

Grading Criteria

 

A well structured database that handles all the requirements is worth full credit. Remember you will want to include all tables, primary and foreign keys in your diagram and design.
